AI, Analysis & Authorship: Navigating the Grey Areas In-Person
Join us for a conversation about using GenAI during the later stages of research, scholarship, and creative work (e.g., data analysis, interpretation and synthesis of findings, manuscript and grant writing, knowledge mobilization, and research dissemination). Together we will explore the opportunities and limitations of these tools, with a focus on ethical, transparent, and responsible use that prioritizes research integrity, quality, authorship, and scholarly rigor.
Please feel free to bring your lunch. We will provide coffee.
Here are some guiding questions to get our conversation started.
- What considerations should guide research teams when evaluating the appropriateness of using generative AI and, if deemed appropriate, selecting a generative AI tool to assist with analysis while safeguarding research quality and integrity?
- How can we manage the fact that GenAI can be a black box making transparency of the analysis and interpretation processes opaque making it difficult to validate the outcomes or demonstrate methodology?
- What additional considerations are you factoring in when using GenAI in team-based research, particularly when GenAI is typically not eligible for authorship?
- How do you plan to be transparent with your AI use in your research? Should disclosure expectations differ depending on what AI was used for (i.e editing vs analysis vs interpretation vs writing)?
- How does your approach to using AI in your research change when communicating results to the public vs other scholars?
- What support or guidance would help you feel more confident in making decisions about the responsible use of generative AI to analyze, interpret and disseminate your work?
These workshops will not be recorded, as they rely on in-person participation.
