RAG to Resources: Introduction to AI Academic Search Engine Online

Have you ever received the perfect resource recommendation for a research paper from Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT, only to find out it doesn’t exist? General-purpose AI chat tools frequently hallucinate references, but RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) tools can help! AI academic search engines, such as Undermind, Elicit, AskTrip, and The Literature, can find and summarize academic literature based on a natural language query. Attendees will learn about RAG and the differences between ungrounded large language models, AI search engines, and academic AI search engines. A hands-on activity will emphasize critical thinking about how these tools work, the evaluation of references and summary outputs, and the importance of transparency and accountability in the use of RAG tools.  Attendees should review the library’s Generative Artificial Intelligence guide (https://libguides.usask.ca/gen_ai) in advance of the session. An Undermind.ai (https://app.undermind.ai/) account is helpful, but not required to attend this session.

Registration is required. There are 27 seats available.
