Predatory journals and publishers: Steer clear of the scams Online
Part of the Health Sciences Workshop Series. Predatory publishers use deceptive practices such as fake impact factors and promises of quick peer review to lure authors to submit to them. They are internet scams, not true publishers. They exploit the author-pays open access funding model for their own profit while providing little or no editorial services. Having your work associated with one of these entities will harm your professional reputation. We discuss this phenomenon and provide you with practical tools and strategies to identify these scammers – and avoid them! This session is part of a health sciences workshop series on managing and sharing your research. The primary audience is grad students, research staff, and faculty in the health sciences, but all are welcome to attend.
