Elections and Freedom of Expression In-Person
Why is free expression so important in a democratic country and how is this relevant to elections? The Charter of Rights and Freedoms, 2(b), enshrines this right for Canadians. Freedom of Expression, is also mentioned by the University of Saskatchewan, stating that “one person’s strongly held view does not take precedence over another’s right to hold and express the opposite opinion in a lawful manner” (Academic Misconduct). In this workshop, we will look at what the Charter allows for, the limitations imposed by the Criminal Code and how this all relates to voting.
