Creative Write-In at the USask Library In-Person / Online
We’re thrilled to welcome Sheheryar (Shero) B. Sheikh, acclaimed author of three books, to our next two Creative Write-in sessions! This is a unique opportunity to connect with an award-winning writer and gain insight into the creative process from a writer deeply immersed in both fiction and academic writing.
Creative Write-in session will follow our usual format:
- Two writing sprints (40–45 minutes each)
- Open sharing time between sprints
During the first sprint, we will have an optional workshop featuring a writing prompt Shero prepared, followed by a group discussion. Whether you’re looking to spark new ideas or refine your piece, this will be a great opportunity to move forward in your writing!
Sheheryar B. Sheikh is a Donald Hill Family Postdoctoral Fellow at Dalhousie University, Canada. He has published two novels with HarperCollins India, The Still Point of the Turning World (2017) and Call Me Al: The Hero’s Ha-Ha Journey (2019), both of which have been finalists for the All-Pakistan Getz Pharma prize. He is also the author of The Post-9/11 Great American Novel: Fictional Perpetuations of White American Trauma and Islamophobia (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2025). A study of the confluences between liberal white Americans' trauma, their reverting to hyper-conservative Islamophobia, and Don DeLillo's call to American authors that they compose a new so-called 'Great American Novel' pluriverse in the wake of 9/11.
About Creative Write-ins:
Join other creative writers at USask’s Murray Library to work on your creative writing project. We’ll be hosting a write-in monthly on a Tuesday from 6-8 pm. You can attend online or in-person. In-person is in the Murray Library’s Collaborative Learning Lab, Room 145.
All you need to bring are your writing tools (laptop, notebook, pens) and your creative ideas! Writing prompts will be provided for those who need a starting point or are stuck in their current project.
These write-in events are open to everyone. There is also a separate low sensory room available. Refreshments will be provided.
Each event will have free writing time with breaks to chat and connect with other writers.
